Red Deer Public wraps up second successful Aspiring Leaders sessions

Striving to be your best self while helping others be their best selves was the message that more than 50 鶹ӳ’ staff heard during the final Aspiring Leaders session of the school year.

The 鶹ӳ Aspiring Leaders Symposium took place June 5 at the Division’s Central Office.

Participants chose between four breakout sessions led by administrators including ‘The Importance of Collaboration’; ‘Leading with Gratitude in Education: Cultivating a Culture of Appreciation’; ‘Leading a Learning Community by Building Trust’; and ‘Igniting Vision: Leaders in Educational Spaces’.

Some of the key takeaways from the sessions included using collaboration to drive school success; practical methods for expressing gratitude effectively; defining trustworthiness and steps to building trust as the foundation for effective communication; and innovative problem-solving and action planning.

The evening ended with an inspiring address from Dr. Rick Gilson, who spoke about personal leadership and how that is grounded and rooted into one’s beliefs.

“Our goal with our sessions this year was to give people practical skills that they could add to their own leadership toolkit,” said Corrine Thorsteinson, Associate Superintendent of People Services. “This last session was the culmination of a great year of learning.”

In reflection of the Aspiring Leaders sessions this year, Corrine said they have been a success.

“It was great to see all of our employee groups at our sessions throughout the school year,” said Corrine. “It really was a team effort from our table group facilitators, discussion panel participants, to our People Services team, and of course all of the Red Deer Public staff who attended. We look forward to continuing Aspiring Leaders for our staff next year.”
